The Clarifye exam, and what it does not cost
Clarifye is LensCrafters' digital exam format. Instead of the phoropter and the “better one or two” refraction, it uses wavefront aberrometry to measure the prescription and takes a digital retinal image, alongside the usual acuity, peripheral vision and ocular health checks.
You will find Clarifye described elsewhere as a paid upgrade over a standard exam, with a specific surcharge attached. LensCrafters publishes no such surcharge, and describes Clarifye as costing no more than a regular exam. The wide spread in the published store fees above is not a standard-versus-Clarifye split: it is the same exam priced differently in different places, which is what you would expect when the optometrist sets the fee.
Clinically, the digital format is worth asking about if you have a complex prescription or want a retinal image on record for future comparison.
